What I saw this morning

I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday.  We spent the day and night in Tucson with my sis and her husband.  I talked Trish into waking up with me before the crack of dawn this morning so I could shoot the sun coming up over water.  We both woke up later than we wanted to but we made it just in time to greet the sun.

The early morning also brought signs of life at the little lake.  Here is my sister trying out her mad goose training skills. :)

Actually she was pointing me in the direction of this fella who was making his way to a shallow area where small birds were feeding…he was looking for breakfast

I love it when animals look like they are smiling! :)  Maybe he or she was laughing at us. :)

Finally Trish’s goose.  If you look in the upper right hand corner you can see the dragonfly the goose was watching

Thanks for visiting and sharing the morning with us.

Our oldest son, Bryan, who is spreading his wings and attending college in Mississippi has started a blog chronicling his journey in art and faith.  His blog is here.

MARIA! The first photo took my breath away. I also love, love, love the toad photo. That would so rock for the iheartfaces – animals. Totally awesome!

Rachel - July 8, 2009 - 6:28 pm

I said “WOW” out loud when I saw the first picture… beautiful. Maybe it’s just me, but your sister reminds me of Sarah Palin in the “goose training” shot. =)

As always, you have such an eye for this. They are fabulous. I showed one of my friends and she said, “Wowww! She has really got a gift. That is impressive!” She loved the duck pics, actually all of them. Lotso’ “oos”, “ahhs” and “wows”

Love you!

Maria these are wonderful! The sunrise is perfection. Your settings are spot on for that sun. And the bird pictures. A-mazing! I think waking up early and seeking subjects suits you very well. Hugs my friend.

Mom & John- Trish’s “goose whispering” prowess had little effect on the goose. :(

Jeanne Shields - July 5, 2009 - 10:01 pm

Maria, John and I love the pictures. Did Trish get that goose trained? John suggests that you go professional :) Love, Mom and John

Thanks Sara! Thanks Babe- I didn’t even think of trying HDR, I’m running on fumes from the early morning. I’ll give it a try though. :)

sara - July 5, 2009 - 8:36 pm

What a lovely morning!! Even though I have a bird phobia, those shots are great!!

Robert - July 5, 2009 - 8:27 pm

Great sunrise capture there Babe! I like the reflection off the water. Have you tried ot run it through HDR yet?

Maria - July 5, 2009 - 8:13 pm

Hi Pam! He attends Belhaven College in Jackson. “Goose Whisperer” THAT MADE ME LAUGH!!!! My sis will love it when she visits tomorrow. :)

Pam D - July 5, 2009 - 8:10 pm

Oh my. I can tell I’m going to love visiting your blog! What amazing photos! Where in Mississippi is your son going to college (or I suppose I could toddle over to his blog and SEE…lazy, aren’t I?) I graduated from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS (soon to be named something else, just not sure what at this point).
Anyway… I enjoyed watching the “goose-whisperer” at work, and all of the other gorgeous photos as well. Have a great night…

I like to call things in my life that happen unexpectedly and turn into something wonderful “happy accidents”. I’ve had many happy accidents, meeting my husband, forgetting an ingredient in a recipe and discovering it tasted better without the ingredient, etc... Photography was another “happy accident". A friend needed someone to help shoot auto races, my husband volunteered me and bought me my first Digital SLR camera. Five years have passed since those first nights standing on a wall and trying my best to capture cars traveling 120 mph heading directly at me. It didn’t take me long before I wanted to learn how to operate the camera without guidance. My journey began and still continues. read more
