A Little Something From the Garden 2

If you’re a frequent visitor to my blog you may remember that this year we dove into vegetable gardening.  It’s been a real learning experience.  I am constantly amazed at how one little seed can produce so much!  I quit counting how many yellow squash we have hauled out of the garden.  I have many packages processed and frozen for enjoying this Winter.

We’ve also learned that where there is a will there is a way for pugs to get through my hastily built, make-shift chicken wire fence to dig holes in the garden.  Sorry no pictures of that, I wasn’t in the mood to document the destruction. :(  Besides there’s not much exciting about holes in the dirt but here’s a pic of one of the furry offenders.

Yesterday we had a real fence built to keep the diggers out.  You can see here the disappointment. :)

This morning we picked our first ripe tomato.  Oh, it was TASTY!

You can see in the background MORE yellow squash waiting to be processed.  Did I mention we have a lot of yellow squash!?!

Finally, some fun with macro.  After a brief rainstorm this butterfly came to visit.  I love macro shooting it enables me to see so much more than is visible with the naked eye.

Wow! your butterfly shots are AMAZING Maria! And I wish I could do a garden. We don’t have the space here:( Maybe I’ll look into the community garden. I love tomatoes and squash. Send some to Hawaii:)

Pam the macro lens I have is a Sigma 105mm, 2.8. You can find it here If you want to get even closer the Kenko extension tubes can be added to the macro lens, they are here. Now how about sharing that casserole recipe? Does it freeze well? I have lots of yellow squash. :)

Oh my! Those are just amazing! My son LOVES pugs and was laughing in delight at your furry friends. And me? Well, my mouth is watering over that squash, imagining a good ol’ Southern squash casserole. Yum! The butterfly shots are just over the top; absolutely frameable artwork. You are amazing. I started my own photoblog after being inspired by you and another friend. It’s a WordPress photoblog and very simple.. but I’d love you to take a look when you have a chance. It’s at http://lifebythecreek.wordpress.com . Now… more info on that macro lens, please….

I like to call things in my life that happen unexpectedly and turn into something wonderful “happy accidents”. I’ve had many happy accidents, meeting my husband, forgetting an ingredient in a recipe and discovering it tasted better without the ingredient, etc... Photography was another “happy accident". A friend needed someone to help shoot auto races, my husband volunteered me and bought me my first Digital SLR camera. Five years have passed since those first nights standing on a wall and trying my best to capture cars traveling 120 mph heading directly at me. It didn’t take me long before I wanted to learn how to operate the camera without guidance. My journey began and still continues. read more
