Birds : Tamron Lens Contest

I love contests, I love having them and I love participating in them.  Tamron lenses is having a contest for all levels of photographers, anyone with an SLR camera can participate.  You can check out the contest details here.  Since I love contests and since the prize is a new lens  (who wouldn’t love new glass?)  I’m going to get some entries together.  I don’t have much in the way of wildlife in my backyard, except for birds, so this afternoon I stole some time to capture the action that I normally watch from a window.  Here are my first attempts.  Not sure if any of these will, or should,  make a contest entry…what do you think?

I really like the bird in flight in the next one however I think next time I try I will use a faster shutter speed to reduce the wing blur.

Ooooh, I loved them all! How did you get the birdies to pose so nicely? I would swear you have some decoys! :)

Love them!!! You are so awesome! :0) My fav is the first one.

The second one has winner written ALL over it, Maria! Just spot-on perfection in clarity, focus, color, and dof. The creamy bokeh in the background is stunning, and the detail of the bird is incredible. I love the feet, too. Good luck!

Oh this is a tough one to choose. They are all great. I love the DOF of the second one. And wow so close up! That’s my pick. However, the last one is great. I love the community feel and all that interaction with the birds on the feeder. Looks very engaging. I don’t mind the wing blur. It adds to the feeling of arriving/motion.

Hi Maria, I like the middle one. The last one would have been great but like you said the wings are blurry. Nice job on all of them thoug.

I like to call things in my life that happen unexpectedly and turn into something wonderful “happy accidents”. I’ve had many happy accidents, meeting my husband, forgetting an ingredient in a recipe and discovering it tasted better without the ingredient, etc... Photography was another “happy accident". A friend needed someone to help shoot auto races, my husband volunteered me and bought me my first Digital SLR camera. Five years have passed since those first nights standing on a wall and trying my best to capture cars traveling 120 mph heading directly at me. It didn’t take me long before I wanted to learn how to operate the camera without guidance. My journey began and still continues. read more
